PUBLIC SERVICE CHAMPION CARRIE O’MALLEY LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN FOR IRVINE CITY COUNCIL
Carrie O’Malley has more than two decades of public service and public policy experience at the federal, state, and local levels. O’Malley was born and raised in Southern California and has been an Irvine homeowner and resident for over twenty-two years. Currently, Carrie serves as District Director and Senior Policy Advisor to a Member of the California State Assembly. Carrie has worked for several elected officials on a number of policy areas, including public safety, transportation, budget, and social services. Recently, Carrie served for nearly four years as Senior Policy Advisor to a Member of the Orange County Board of Supervisors where she was responsible for complex policy analysis on a myriad of issues (focusing on public protection and transportation). Carrie also worked on a number of special projects and complex policy issues while at the County – working on high level projects with County agencies and boards (such as the Orange County Transportation Authority, OC Fire Authority, Health Care Agency, OC Sheriff’s Department, and OC Probation Department).
Prior to working in local government, Carrie served with the California Attorney General’s Office and with the Committee on Governmental Affairs in the United States Senate. After successfully completing her first year at Harvard Law School, Carrie decided to pursue a career in public policy. At the state and local level, she has served as a field representative and legislative analyst for the California State Assembly. Carrie also served as Senior Government Relations Representative at the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) for many years where she oversaw State government relations and state legislation. O’Malley, is active in her community, currently serving as an elected member (Vice President) on the Board of Directors of her Homeowners Association in Northpark (Irvine), where she is an original homeowner. Carrie also served as an appointed Commissioner (Chair) on the Irvine Transportation Commission. Currently, Carrie is Chair of the Irvine Taxpayers Association as well. In addition, Carrie is a twenty year member of the Junior League of Orange County, where she has held numerous leadership positions. She is currently a Sustaining Member of that organization. Carrie is on the Board of Directors of the Joyful Child Foundation in memory of Samantha Runnion, where she continues to champion public safety for all children. Carrie has also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) both in Boston and in Orange County, helping abused children navigate through the court system. Carrie was educated at Harvard Law School (1L) and at the University of California, Santa Barbara with degrees in Philosophy and Law and Society.
